How do we define Nutrition?
The act or process of nourishing or being nourished specifically, the sum of the processes by which an animal or plant takes in and utilizes food substances that are necessary for human nutrition. Or Nutrition is the study of nutrients in food, how the body uses them, and the relationship between diet, health, and disease.
Nutrition is a critical part of health and development. Good nutrition or a healthy diet promotes growth, development, ageing, stronger immune systems, child and maternal health, lower risk of non-communicable diseases, overall a good lifestyle and longevity.
Healthy person with adequate nutrition learn better, are more productive and can create better opportunities. Whereas, Malnutrition in every form create threats to human health.
There are seven main classes of nutrients that body requires. And the basic nutrients are Carbohydrates, Proteins, Fats, Vitamins, Minerals, Fiber and Water. It is very important that everyone consumes these nutrients on daily basis to help themselves build their bodies and maintain their health.
Nutrition is best balanced by eating the right amounts of a large variety of foods. Along with balanced nutrition a good amount of exercise is critical to health. A balanced diet is often represented by different symbols like, A wheel or plate suggests a balance of foods is desirable, the rainbow symbol emphasizes variety of food, a pyramid recommends number of servings.
There's no questioning the importance of balanced nutrition in life. Unless we maintain a proper diet or nutrition for a healthy body, we may be prone to diseases, infection, or even exhaustion.
